  • Fresher is better: "The faster a food becomes stale, the better it is for you," says Agatston, who points out that hydrogenated oils, the worst kind of fat are what gives foods like Pop-Tarts a long shelf life.
  • Alcohol adds empty calories to your diet and may weaken your willpower. Moderate consumption is okay, especially if you choose wine which has some health benefits.
